Best Vegan Tikka Masala Sauce

What is Tikka Masala Sauce?

Tikka Masala Sauce is a rich and flavorful base known for its creamy texture and aromatic spices. Traditionally, this sauce is made using cream to achieve its luscious consistency. However, in my vegan version, I substitute the cream with creamy coconut milk, offering a plant-based alternative without compromising on taste or richness.

The blend of ripe tomatoes, warming spices, and smooth coconut milk creates a sauce that’s bold, aromatic, and delicious. Perfect for tofu, chickpeas, or vegetables, this vegan Tikka Masala Sauce is a delightful way to enjoy the classic flavors in a more health-conscious and inclusive way.

Why I Love Making This Sauce

The versatility of Tikka Masala sauce is what makes it a kitchen staple. Its ability to transform simple ingredients like chicken, tofu, or vegetables into a flavorful and satisfying meal is truly remarkable.

How I Make My Tikka Masala Sauce

I start by heating olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. I sauté thinly sliced onions until they turn translucent, then add ginger garlic paste and cook for a minute until fragrant. Next, I add a blend of spices including kasoori methi, garam masala, ground cumin, turmeric, coriander, paprika, and salt, stirring everything well to combine the flavors. I pour in canned or fresh tomato sauce along with full-fat coconut milk, adjusting the sauce’s consistency with water as needed.

I let the sauce simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to my desired texture.

Finally, I turn off the heat and adjust the consistency further if necessary by adding a bit more water or letting it boil down slightly.
