Unroll Your Mat Anywhere: Meet 6 Online Yoga Teachers Who Will Guide You

Spread the love

“The best online yoga teachers are those who can make you feel like you’re in the same room, even when you’re miles apart.”

Close your eyes and imagine a beautiful ashram nestled in the serene setting of a forest somewhere in India. This is where yoga was traditionally taught, in person, with a guru or teacher guiding the way.

The journey of yoga from India to the West led to the creation of dedicated yoga spaces – the yoga studios. These spaces have evolved beyond just workout centers to become communities of like-minded individuals seeking spiritual growth and connection.

As we progress and technology continues to advance, ancient practices like yoga are also finding new homes in online spaces. The idea of practicing yoga without a physical teacher might have seemed impossible at first, but now online yoga classes are growing in popularity every day.

While in-person studios will always have a place in the yoga world, the flexibility and convenience of online options are attracting yogis from all corners of the globe. It’s amazing to witness how yoga has adapted to our modern times.

When the pandemic hit, I  also took a leap of faith and tried online yoga. My regular yoga studio also started offering online classes, which made the decision to try it out even easier. Despite my initial worries that it wouldn’t measure up to in-person classes, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. It turned out that the experience was anything but bad – in fact, it was quite enjoyable. For me, the flexibility and convenience of practicing at home were huge positives.

I also found that my initial concerns about not being able to connect with teachers through a computer screen were completely unfounded. In fact, it worked out beautifully! Even during the classes, I would get so absorbed in my practice that I would forget my teacher was remote. It was incredibly easy to practice with a remote teacher, and I was pleasantly surprised by how seamlessly the whole process went.

Having experienced the transformative power of online yoga, are you now ready to become a believer as well?

Finding a great teacher is key, and I’ve got you covered. I have put together a short list of some of the best online yoga instructors out there. These experts have the experience and knowledge to guide you through your practice with skill and precision.

I have had the pleasure of practicing with some of these amazing teachers, and I hope they make a believer out of you too (if you are not one already). Their passion and dedication to the practice continue to inspire me, and I am sure they will have the same effect on you.

#1. Katrina Cabaltera

Katrina was my first yoga teacher, and I had the pleasure of experiencing both her in-person and online classes. Her teaching style is gentle, intentional, and calming, which allowed me to go deeper into the poses and experience a sense of inner peace. Katrina’s knowledge of yoga and anatomy was impressive, and her cues helped me align my body correctly and prevent injury. Her classes left me feeling grounded, centered, and ready to take on the day. Sign up for her online or in-person class, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Katrina’s Yoga Journey

The Year 2013 was a challenging time for Katrina as she made a career change, worked, and did her master’s full-time, all while dealing with issues related to autoimmunity. This experience forced her to redefine what it meant to be “healthy,” which kick-started her yoga journey. When she created space to understand where the disconnects were, Katrina recognized that chronic stress was the common thread. She took a yoga class in 2014 to really just learn how to meditate and calm the mind, and then the rest was history.

Yoga opened up her eyes to the art of possibility. Katrina’s personal transformation through yoga further inspired her to give back to her community and show others how yoga can bring joy, peace within, and a higher state of well-being. Katrina completed her 200hr YTT in 2020 and continued on with completing her 500hrs in 2022. She holds additional yoga certifications in prenatal yoga, pranayama, and yoga nidra, and she is a certified group fitness instructor who loves teaching HIIT classes. She also is an energy practitioner and astrologer.

Paulie Zink studied martial arts and yoga from a young age. He was chosen by a Kung-fu master, Cho Chat Ling, to be his sole protege and privately trained for ten years. During this time, Paulie developed his own style of yoga, which he calls the Art of Yin yoga. He combined three Kung-fu styles into a discipline that demanded mental concentration, physical exercise, and spiritual practices. Master Cho declared Paulie his own master after ten years of training and he became the only Westerner to be traditionally trained in the secret knowledge of Tai Shing Pek Kwar. Paulie won the Grand Championship in all the solo “Empty Hands” and “Weapons” divisions of approximately one hundred martial arts tournaments, including the Long Beach International Karate Championships for three consecutive years.

#4. Tracy Mattox

Tracy’s experience with pelvic floor issues and the lack of suitable yoga options led her to specialize in teaching yoga for this specific area. She recognized the need for this type of yoga and decided to use her knowledge to help others. Tracy’s dedication to her craft has allowed her to become an expert in a field that is often overlooked or underrepresented in traditional yoga classes. By sharing her expertise through Yoga Below the Belt, Tracy is helping people all over the world find relief and improve their quality of life through the practice of yoga.

Tracy’s Yoga Journey

Tracy’s yoga journey began during her physical therapy for pelvic organ prolapse. Incorporating what she learned in therapy into her yoga practice expedited her progress. However, after finishing treatment, she struggled to find suitable exercise options. Traditional group fitness classes and personal trainer routines exacerbated her symptoms, and her friends faced similar challenges. To address this issue, Tracy decided to become a certified yoga instructor and completed specialized courses on teaching yoga for the pelvic floor.

#5. Michelle Pendleton

Michelle’s personal experience with chronic pain and the journey she took to recover inspired her to help others.   Her determination to overcome her own health challenges and her willingness to help others make her an inspiration to those seeking a path to a better life.

Michelle’s Yoga Journey

Michelle has first-hand experience with chronic pain and worked for years to recover. She was diagnosed with multilevel disc degenerative disease in 2010. Living with pain forced her to enter physical therapy and chiropractic treatment. By experimenting with various mobility, strength training, yoga, and meditation techniques, she pieced together a pain-elimination puzzle.

She was told by a surgeon to stop running and doing yoga, which motivated her to pursue the next phase of growth. She began with daily journaling and meditation to develop greater self-awareness and trust. Then she explored alternative nutritional and medical treatments to unravel life-long health challenges through holistic practice. Her newfound joy, strength, and well-being compelled her to share her insights and passion with others.

Michelle’s Credentials and offerings:

Yoga Medicine® Registered Therapeutic Specialist – trained with Tiffany Cruikshank of Yoga Medicine
