There aren’t many interactive exhibits for tots, but for if you’re really into the artists and sketches, this is an informative way to spend an afternoon. The location in the Presidio is beautiful too and since the Presidio is part of SF that tourists don’t usually head over to, you’re more likely to see locals in their native habitat going on walks and strolls, rather than camera wielding out-of-towners.Definitely worth a visit when in Presidio, except I wouldn’t recommend for little kids since its more of a histrory of Walt Disney museum.absolutely fantastic background on the most adored company of all time- Walt Disney studios. parking on weekends is tricky, but so worth it.Located in the Presidio, the Walt Disney Family Museum has its own after-hours event called “Animate Your Night.” Like other museums, it has film showings, music, performances, and artist demos and activities. Each event has a different rotating theme along with food for sale. It’s not as easy to get to as other museums, but it’s a popular stop for tourists and locals alike. A lovely and impeccably curated tribute to a man who shaped the way American’s (and much of the world) entertain and vacation. Really great rotating shows and special engagements are not to be missed, in the museum’s equally well appointed annex. It should also be noted that this museum was put together by the Disney family, not the Disney Company, and it’s a noticeable distinction. Get into it. Get. Into. It. For Disneyphiles, this is an absolute Mecca and must see. Chock full of history, original concept art, photographs and interactive exhibits. My only advice? If you like to linger in museums, make sure you give your meter enough time!I thought I would be too old to enjoy this museum, but it appeals to people all ages, depicting the history and fun inside details of Disney’s entire history. Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, everyone will love this fun museum in the PresidioAn intimate, inspiring look into how one name became a household name. From Walt’s childhood stories to his journey of becoming an artist and businessman, there’s infobits for everyone to enjoy, including the technologies used in animations and all the facts of people that helped him along the way. Well-preserved artifacts.I really liked this museum, but felt that it was geared more to adults than children. Not a complaint, but I think that many people think Disney and expect more of an experience. This is a museum…about Disney.Very informative history of Walt Disney and his family. I’m not sure I’d bring children though as most of the exhibits and stations require a lot of reading. Seems that small children would get bored very easily. Great for Disneyphiles! There is also a cafe and store so you can take a break and go back in.I really loved this museum. I didn’t know it existed until I saw a bunch of advertisement for it last year. I thought it was really beautiful and educational, but a fun enough subject matter that my fourteen year old sister was just as happy to go. The gift shop was one of the best parts! They also do military discount.Located in the Presidio, this is a must see for anyone who loves Disney. You learn about Walt Disney’s life, plus get a look at his work on several films, many of which have become classics. One of my favorite parts of the museum is a mini replica of the Disneyland park. There are also quarterly art installments that can be seen for $5 in addition to the museum admission price. If you admire Walt Disney for what he created for the world, this place will amaze and move you. It’s as much an emotional experience as it is one both nostalgic and historic. When was the last time you went to a museum that had a proper pacing, where someone could spoil it for you if they revealed the surprise ending. This is such a museum. I’m really proud to have this museum in our city. This is a great museum to visit if you love Walt Disney and have about 3 hours. This isn’t a great museum for kids since it’s mostly about Walt’s life and how he developed his characters and cartoons. It’s a lot of reading, so kids could get bored. The museum is really a collection of the family’s items and not related to the Disney corporation at all. There’s a huge room that just displays all of Walt’s awards and trophies from his entire life. Downstairs there’s a theater that you can catch a collection of old cartoon clips based on a theme that’s always changing. There’s also a room that you can create your own stop motion animation, which is really cool. Unfortunately you can’t email the video to yourself, but you could record it on your phone as it’s playing. As I trekked across the presidio with my heavy backpack, in transit from the MUNI stop near the Lombard gate, I couldn’t help but think that I was embarking on an adventure. Maybe it was the absolute stillness of the morning, or maybe it was the labyrinthine path my iPhone had drawn me in order to reach my destination. Either way, the day was resonating with the spirit of Walt Disney. But seriously though, finding this museum is like finding a hidden mickey; You have to do your research and work for it. That’s why I’m not docking points for its remote location; in fact after the glorious view of the Golden Gate bridge you get from the middle of the gallery, how can you not reach catharsis? Any frustrations I may have had were whisked away by the glorious views, the cavernous 16 room exhibition floor, and the faint whispers of Tchaikovsky. There are so many things to love about this museum. From the sheer depth of information that you probably did not know, to the plethora of Disney artifacts, I was filled with an actual sense of wonderment that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I geeked out and learned about how to use a multiplane camera, watched Walt interact with animatronic dinosaurs, and lost myself in the entire room dedicated to Disneyland with it’s phenomenal scale model of the entire park. That, and a gift shop full of merchandise that you probably haven’t ever seen in the Disney parks. I already had a mountain, no Matterhorn of respect for Walt’s creative genius, but after learning about his hardship, his selflessness during the war to contribute to the cause, and his fearlessness to innovate despite a world of haters, I was smitten once again. This is one of those museums that will excite your children, and regale your folks. It truly is for everyone, and I simply cannot wait to go back. Bravo. 5 Stars. That feeling you get when you go to Disneyland, only more amazing because you see a lot of the behind the scenes, original sketches, and old clips. It’s amazing and worth checking out if you love Disney everything. A must for any Disney Fan. A lot of reading though and younger kids may not find it as engaging. If your a Disney fan in any way you’ll love it! Learn more about the man behind the mouse. His family created a fantastic museum, another credit to the legacy!I’m not sure why the Disney Foundation decided to build the Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio area of San Francisco but I thought it was an educational venture while up in SF. My cousin and I hopped on the MUNI to the Presidio. The Google Maps bus transit feature is better than any MUNI app you’ll find out there. It calculates your route, tells you what bus to hop on, and even tells you the amount of the fare. Cool, right?! So for $2, Vanessa D. and I headed towards the Presidio. We also walked down Lovers’ Lane. It’s weird to do that with your cousin, but I digress. Google maps says the walk from the bus stop is 1.2 miles. WTH? Sigh, a nature walk. The walk wasn’t so bad. Although, I did get a few, “Are we there yets?” from the cousin. Out of the forest, we stumble onto military baracks in brick. It reminds me of Portland, well sort of. We purchased tickets through Goldstar for $10 plus a $4 handling fee. Normal admission for adults is $20. The museum was unexpectedly educational. Things you didn’t know about the Walt Disney family and Walt’s personal life are exhibited in galleries. Like how he and his wife tried for a large family but only had one daughter. They adopted another girl, Sharon, shortly after Diane turned 2. There’s a huge mini replica of Disneyland in the main room. There are photos everywhere and animated posters. There are collections of Disney memorabilia of days gone by. There are personal artifacts like Lilian Disney’s ‘Snow White’ charm bracelet made by Cartier and gifted to her by Walt. There’s also Walt’s ‘Dopey’ money clip on display. The museum chronicles the life and death of Walt Disney. The museum is clean, well presented, and has the most comfortable benches I’ve ever sat on at any museum I’ve ever been to. The gift shop has a lot of Disney inspired products that you might not see anywhere else. As an annual passholder, I have yet to see some of the items for sale at the Disney museum gift shop anywhere at the Disney Parks. You see, the Disney Foundation runs the museum and has no connection, except for name, to the Walt Disney Company which runs the parks and the massive Disney empire. This little museum was done privately by the Disney family. It’s their homage to Walt Disney and for all of his fans.”},{“value”:”Going here I didny know what to expect but a bunch of Nicky mouse art.
