The Museum of Jurassic Technology is a unique museum that is dedicated to the study of the lower Jurassic. Located in the Palms district of Los Angeles, the museum features mostly Jurassic relics and … Read more contains more than 30 permanent exhibits. The museum was founded in 1987 by David Hildebrand Wilson and Diana Drake Wilson and is not a traditional museum. In 2005 the museum opened the Russian style Tula Tea Room. The team room is a miniature reconstruction of the study of Tsar Nicolas II from the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia. Approximately 18,000 people visit the museum each year. What a cute and kitschy place to visit! I highly recommend this place if you’re bored of every other museum in town. It’s weird and entertaining and you’ll come out of it with endless conversation starters. I came here on one of my first dates with my boyfriend, and it was a great ice breaker. This is definitely a strange and wonderful discovery in the city. If you keep an open mind and don’t expect a traditional museum, this can be a really unique and trippy experience. Some of the exhibits included miniatures, a collection of dice, and animal skeletons. It’s more a cabinet of curiosities than a museum, but you’re guaranteed to find something to talk about after visiting.Do you want to save 50-80 bucks on tickets to Halloween events at Knott’s, Queen Mary, or any other places that have Halloween events? Well, this museum will definitely save you a whole bunch. If you’ve ever been on the dune buggy at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, this is like the walking version of the ride. You see a lot of hollowgrams on the 1st flooor and a creepy bell apparatus spinning around. It is just eerie and creepy….so perfect for Halloween! The 2nd floor is where you see a few rooms with floating hands, a piano that feels like it will play by itself at any moment, a room to enjoy tea and cookies. Finally, the third floor is an outdoor small place you can enjoy the serenity. Yes, this place is pretty random but very interesting. Can’t be sure how many stars to put. It’s a really weird museum, definitely one of a kind. You cannot leave Los Angeles without visiting the Museum of Jurassic Technology! This is no ordinary museum. Hard to describe, but once you go there, you will be transformed. Bizarre, wonderous, fascinating, quirky, and thought-provoking. Exhibits run across the spectrum of human experience and thought. The Metro Rail system (Expo Line) makes this accessible for a stop on your way to or from Santa Monica. This is one of my favorite museums in L.A. It’s small and quirky and unlike it’s name suggests, it’s filled with oddities and curiosities more than technology but is so worth the visit. Be sure to check out the charming tea room upstairs complete with a little bird sanctuary. Check out Govinda’s nearby for an all you can eat vegetarian buffet. The Museum of Jurassic Technology is the kind of place that everyone should experience at least once in their life. The best advice I can give you is to just go there. A great spot for a first or second date because there will be a lot to talk about! It’s $8 for adults and $5 for full time students, so it’s a great place to go if you’re on a tight budget.I would never have suspected such a unique and crazy museum in this area of culver city. The museum had a lot of strange exhibits that kept me on my toes. A must visit once place!Unique cult and highly rated place, read reviews and decide if this is your style!Simply mind-blowing. If you don’t already know about this place, I kind of don’t want to give anything away. Suffice to say, it is a remarkable and odd museum. You will learn all kinds of strange things. The man who set it up won a MacArthur genius grant, and rightfully so.I had a mission to explore places in Culver City that I’ve never been to before. Naturally, this museum was my top choice. Let’s just say that this experience was not like any other. Walking through the unpretentious wooden door, I felt as though I was: 1) part of a secret society, 2) in an eerie haunted house, and/or 3) part of a huge joke. What sealed the deal for me (in terms of my liking for the quirky charm of the museum) was the black cat that came out of nowhere and rubbed on my leg to be petted. I definitely enjoyed my time, but I think this is a one time thing.I had the pleasure of going to the Musuem of Jurassic Technology for their annual holiday party. One part art, one part hoax, and one party mystery, it is all amazing. Beautiful architecture, inventive and funny exhibits, and great people. I was expecting weird things but not non-sensical things. So this place was a bit of a let down. The x-ray photos of flowers was cool and the tea room was decent, but most of the other exhibits were just weird and not very interesting.Even going into this mysterious museum knowning it isn’t a conventional museum, I was not impressed by the exhibits. The museum is hard to find as it’s tucked in between shops on Venice Blvd. and the door is never open, so you probably don’t even know it exists. I don’t want to spoil the museum for anyone, but you have to go in knowing that everything is a joke. Even knowing that, I felt the exhibits were not well maintained as a lot of the descriptions were rubbed off and the audio for many of them weren’t working. Also, the exhibits are very random and don’t really connect from one to another. The highlight was going up the stairs to a small room where someone serves you free tea and cookies and you can enjoy them out on a patio. Is it a real museum? Is it fake? Are the artifacts based on real stories? Hard to say. What is for certain is that this is one of the most unique and different “museums” that you’ll encounter in Los Angeles or elsewhere. Artwork on the walls you will not find here, but an intriguing story that will make your mind ponder – absolutely. This museum is literally blocks from where I grew up. Very small, old building. Must admit, I have never been in it and have never seen anyone go in or out of it in the 10+ years I lived near it!The main thing about this museum is that it is an artwork by itself. It is a critic if you like to look at it this way, on the museum of man. It is a collection by two artists, some is fabricated some is not. Each work has a story . The goal is to make you feel like in a “real” museum, with the signs and explanations next to each exhibit. It investigate 16th century notions of the wonder, the bizarre, and the mystery of things in life. No, it is not Ripley Believe it or Not. If you want to experience artworks in a large artwork frame this is a unique place. The name alone should let you know this isn’t your typical museum. It’s hard to review this place without major spoilers, but the gist is this: what if you made a natural history/ anthropology /history museum, except all the “facts”, events, and people within were totally made up? It sounds ludicrous, and yet it works. The Museum never admits to the joke, and the layers of the subterfuge probably took longer to think up and construct than it would to make a “real” museum exhibit. The place is great for skeptics, lovers of the eccentric, and anyone who likes to test the limits of “fact”. It’s one of those things that’s so unique, it’s hard to explain. Just go. Even better, bring someone not in on the ruse and see how long it takes them to get it. Visiting the museum takes about 1-2 hours, and there’s a fair amount of “documentation” to read with the exhibits. It’s off the beaten path but parking is easy. It’s my favorite museums.
