This review is for the CENTRAL LIBRARY of Pasadena. Construction of this library began in 1925 and that is why the year 1925 is carved in Roman numerals over the front entrance of the building after “Public Library of the City of Pasadena.” This ornately decorated and filigreed building is perhaps one of the most beautiful public libraries in all of Los Angeles. Inside, the building is as historic as its exterior, dimly lit with incandescent lamps and high ceilings, the library invokes the sense of antiquity as soon as you step in. However, as much as I love this library with its outdoor patio and cafe next door, there is one tiny little problem that prevents me from lingering and lounging about in there. Allergies. Predictably, any old building filled with equally old books has this air of an antiques shop, one that is in need of much dusting. I’ve tried studying here before and I cannot hold back my watery eyes and sneezes. There is a small parking lot in the back that allows you to park for about 3 hours with about 120 spots. You can reserve books online and get any book from the 10 branches the libraries associate with. This is not part of the LA County public library system so you will have to sign up for a new card. Relatively easy online system to reserve and renew books! What an enormous library! You could easily get lost in here. The main hall reminds me of the Monsters University library and there are many corridors specialization in different categories. One thing that is different at this library is that all their dvd’s are separated by age. Most Disney cartoons are in the children’s section, old school black and white movies and documentaries are in the adults, and the remaining in the young adults. Enjoy!my favorite public library of all time. I have such fond memories of afternoons spent here. love the the lush, warm interior, gorgeous cork floors in the main hall and cozy, low-lit rooms for each different section. This is probably the best public library I been so far in L.A. Historic and nice, you feel like you walking in a history there. There’s limited free parking which is rare in this part of Pasadena. They even got a good area for private event, I when here during my brother piano concept performing. Beautiful library with beautiful architecture. A piece of old Pasadena.”},{“value”:”AboutLocal WeatherPowered by Weather UndergroundF°C°63°42°Jan63°42°Feb64°43°MarAboutLocal WeatherPowered by Weather UndergroundF°C°63°42°Jan63°42°Feb64°43°Mar”},{“value”:”We offer a myriad of services and resources.
